Members ~ Introducing Alice Dee!

Q. Firstly, introduce yourself – name, nickname, where you were born, how old you are, where you live, what your job is or what you study.

A. My name is Alice Dee. I’ve also had a few nicknames, some rude, some not, but the most common is Vamp. I was born in Hornsey, North London, and have lived there until 5 years ago when I moved to the Isle of Wight. I now live in Shanklin and have a really crappy job – but they’re all crappy jobs here!

Q. What do you do in your spare time? What are you passionate about?

A. I don’t get much free time (I have two young gremlins), but I love to read and do puzzles and quizzes. I love to trawl the shops and Internet for anything Vampire related. I love my football – Arsenal of course! But my main passion and obsession has always been and will always be Vampires.

Q. What is your most treasured possession?

A. My most treasured possession? Well, I have a few. My loft room which contains my huge Vampire collection, good friends, my two children, but the most important thing is my mind.

Q. Which living person would you most like to meet?

A. I don’t know, as most of the more interesting people are dead. I would have liked to have met Vincent Price, Anton La Vey, Charles Addams, Oscar Wilde, Lord Byron and Man Ray. And I’ve met a few of the people I’ve wanted to meet – Peter Cushing, Christopher Lee, Simon Drake and Richard O’Brien. Actually I wouldn’t mind going back in time about 30 years to meet Tim Curry – in a Basque, suspenders and platform shoes …

Q. Name your top three bands

A. I don’t really have favourite bands. I listen to all sorts of music depending upon my mood. I love Punk and Ska, but I’m also into a local band who are doing quite well – The Shanklin Freakshow.

Q. Name your top three movies

A. Top three films, that’s hard, as there are a lot of good films, but even more crap films. I think The Exorcist is a good film. Lost Boys has to be in there. The Crow is another, but I also like a lot of the late 80’s / early 90’s films like Waxwork, Innocent Blood and My Best Friend is a Vampire.

Q. What is the most important book you have read? (can be non-vampire)

A. I can’t think of the most important book, as I’ve read hundreds and hundreds. There have been a few that stick in my mind for various reasons – but not just one book.

Q. Which is your favourite horror/vampire book?

A. Again I don’t have one favourite, but Interview With A Vampire is one. Lost Souls is good, but at the moment I’m into The Undead and Unwed books.

Q. Do you think vampires are real? Explain.

A. I’d love to think that Vampires are real. They’ve been chronicled throughout history and in all different cultures. Vampires are everywhere – hopefully.

Q. What were your reasons for joining the London Vampyre Group? What do you want to get out of being a member?

A. I’ve rejoined the LVG after a long absence. I belonged to the Vampyre Society and Vampire Guild etc. Everything was great, then everyone fell out and the society was shut. I went one way and a lot of friends went the other. Anyway with the two young children I’ve had almost zero social life – but enough is enough. All I’ve ever wanted was to make friends and meet up with like-minded people.

Q. What is your favourite word?

A. “Vampyres” of couse!

Q. What is your greatest fear?

A. I have the usual fears – Spiders and water

Q. What is the most important thing life has taught you?

A. The usual clichéd stuff – Treat people as you want to be treated and Good Friends are hard to find.

Q. Give a song lyric / quote from a film or person or a passage / sentence from book that you feel embodies your approach to life.

A. “I don’t want to gain mortality through my work, but through not dying.” Woody Allen
